Japan Tour Review
Takaragawa Onsen is one of the top hot spring resorts in Japan. It’s famous for its mixed-gender, open-air hotspring pools where both male and female can bath together outdoor. This is different from a majority of onsens where men and women are separated into different pools. As such, it’s very popular as a romantic getaway where couples can bath together rather than alone. All the hot spring pools in Takaragawa Onsen are outdoor, and thus guests can relax in the hot pools while enjoying the surrounding scenery of Edo Japan architecture. The outdoor scenery is particularly beautiful in autumn season with colorful leaves and in winter season with thick heavy snow.
This onsen resort is open during day time for all visitors (for a small fee) who want to enjoy the hot springs without staying in the hotel. Consequently, it will be busier during the day. However, there are four huge outdoor pools, so it is not that crowded nevertheless. In the evening, only guests staying in the hotel have access to the hot spring pools, thereby providing some quiet soothing time. The night view is also amazing.
The hotel fee includes both accommodation and half board (breakfast and dinner). The meals are served in Kaiseki Ryori—a multi-course traditional Japanese meal. View the sample of Takaragawa Onsen Kaiseki.
