October 13, 2013: Star gazing at Pyramid Mountain, Pyramid Island and Pyramid Lake on Thanksgiving Weekend. It looks like the Milky Way is at the upper right corner of this photo. Very faint, because it was near the sunrise hours.

Pyramid Trio (Mountain, Island, Lake) is the closest spot to Jasper townsite that allows viewing opportunity of Milky Way. Other popular star gazing locations within Jasper National Park that are easily accessible by cars with a short walk are Maligne Lake, Athabasca Falls, Sunwapta Falls, Columbia Icefield, Mount Edith Cavell, etc.

Being the world’s largest dark sky reserve, free of city light pollution, Jasper National Park holds the Dark Sky Festival every October to educate and appreciate the nature beauty of astrology and astronomy.
