Jasper National Park of Canada has the world’s largest dark sky reserve free of urban light pollution and is home to the Dark Sky Festival in the month of October. Virtually everywhere within the park can be a location for viewing the Milky Way. Maligne Lake is not just a 5-star location that is easily accessible by any means of transportation but also has a wide open field across the entire sky for viewing 5-billion stars!!! That’s lots of stars! The lighting from Maligne Lake Lodge makes it somewhat easy to navigate through the walking trails in the dark, in case you forget to bring a flashlight. The weather this October has been great so far without any snowfall, so I decided to go to Jasper on Thanksgiving long weekend, so that I could stay late at night to enjoy this celestial wonder of the nature.
