January 6, 2014: There are three hotels on the Martial Mountains of Ushuaia. The blue roof is Las Hayas Resort Hotel, the grey building is Los Acebos Hotel, and the green roof is Hotel Del Glaciar (the highest of the three). The mountain road continues past the Hotel Del Glaciar and ends shortly at a parking lot with a hiking trail leading to the glaciers of Martial Mountains. We stopped at Las Hayas for lunch.
After the brief city tour of Ushuaia
this noon, we headed to Las Hayas Resort Hotel to enjoy a traditional Patagonian barbeque lunch at around 2pm. As least, that was what the itinerary says….a BBQ lunch. However, the lunch wasn’t really a BBQ. It was rather formal, starting with wines and appetizer, then salad and the main course, and finally a dessert. After the fabulous lunch, we headed outside to enjoy the nice sunny weather and the panoramic view of Ushuaia from the mountains, conveniently from Las Hayas Hotel’s balcony. This morning we had rain and snow, and this afternoon we had sun. You can see all four seasons in one day in Ushuaia!!!
January 6, 2014: Las Hayas Hotel and Martial Mountain Range viewed from Beagle Channel coastline. There was snowfall on Martial Mountains in Ushuaia when our flight landed on January 6, 2014, which is a summer month for this southernmost city in the world.
