Athabasca Glacier Ice Walk
Columbia Icefield is located in the south border of Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rockies along the Continental Divide of North America. The icefield has six major glaciers:
- Athabasca Glacier
- Castleguard Glacier
- Columbia Glacier
- Dome Glacier
- Stutfield Glacier
- Saskatchewan Glacier
Athabasca Glacier is the only glacier in Columbia Icefield where tourists can ride on snow coach (SnoCoach) and enjoy the glacier walk without much hiking.
Athabasca and Dome Glaciers can be viewed from Icefield Centre. Stutfield Glacier can be viewed nearby Glacier Skywalk. Saskatchewan Glacier can be accessed after a long hike starting from the hairpin loop, south of Icefield Centre. Other glaciers are on the other side of Columbia Icefield and require extensive, long-distance, multiple-weeks wild backcountry hiking.
