Life at Artist Point along Artist Ridge Trail in Heather Meadows of Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest balances precariously at the harsh edge between lush green forests and barren rocks and snow. As you head out on the trail, take some time to enjoy this magnificent setting. With your eyes, trace the line where the mountains greet the sky. Follow the knife-edged ridges down into the hollow valleys. Notice the lace of vegetation veiling coarse lava rock. Watch as the cloud shadows sweep across this grand design. Take a break at one of the benches and appreciate the beauty of icy blue lakes and the flamboyant blossom of wild flowers.
Barrier-free access along the first 600 feet of trail leads to a scenic overlook offering impressive views of Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan, Table Mountain, and its surroundings on a clear day. The hiker trail then continues out along Artist Ridge before looping back to the parking lot.
